Children over the age of 8 participate directly in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). The goal is helping your child understand the relationship between thinking, feeling, and action. There may be brief assignments between sessions for your child to complete with the goal of increasing self-awareness and ultimately changing behaviour in a positive manner. The length of intervention is typically between 5 and 10 sessions.
CBT is proven effective for a variety of problems, such as anger, anxiety, and general unhappiness.
The sessions involve active learning techniques -- drawing, visualization, fun sheets, what if thinking, observation, role play, and many more insight oriented processes suited to your child.
Roadmap for success
Sessions normally occur once a week or once every two weeks. Sessions last for an hour but everything is tailored to suit the individual needs of your child.
